New Headphones from Audio-Technica and a Look Ahead at ULTRASONE

Audio-Technica has recently introduced several new headphone models designed for both professional applications and everyday music enjoyment. These releases highlight the company’s continued focus on innovation in personal audio technology.

The New Flagship of the R-Series

At the top of the new lineup is the ATH-R70xa, developed for critical listening and professional monitoring.

Key features include:

  • Frequency response: 5 Hz – 40,000 Hz

  • Weight: only 199 grams without cable

  • Open, transparent sound reproduction designed for precise spatial imaging

  • Minimalist design aimed at long listening sessions with minimal fatigue

With its extremely low weight and analytical tuning, the ATH-R70xa is intended to provide a highly accurate soundstage, allowing professionals to precisely locate audio sources within a mix.

Cartilage Conduction: A Different Listening Approach

Another notable release from Audio-Technica is the second generation of its cartilage conduction headphones, the ATH-CC500BT2.

Unlike conventional headphones, this technology transmits sound through the cartilage of the outer ear, leaving the ear canal open while still providing relatively high sound quality.

Important features include:

  • Up to 20 hours of battery life

  • AI-based noise reduction for clearer calls

  • IPX4 water resistance

  • Multipoint connectivity for two devices simultaneously

  • Compatibility with voice assistants such as Siri and Google Assistant

This concept is particularly appealing for users who want to remain aware of their surroundings while listening.

Upcoming Innovations from ULTRASONE

While these new models attracted attention, visitors at the Shanghai show were also able to see additional products that have not yet been officially announced.

Ultrasone plans to introduce six new headphone models during 2025.

The upcoming releases include:

  • Three refined versions of existing products

  • Three completely new designs, positioned in the upper and flagship price segments

Continuous refinement has always been a central part of ULTRASONE’s philosophy. The company is constantly working on improving materials, acoustic tuning, and technological details.

And this year marks a special milestone: ULTRASONE celebrates its 35th anniversary. That is reason enough to prepare a few surprises for our valued customers.

Stay tuned—this blog will always be the first place where you hear about the latest developments.

My Perspective

The new products from Audio-Technica are certainly exciting. The extremely low weight of just 199 grams is particularly impressive.

I also had the chance to listen to them. The sound quality is undoubtedly very good. However, to fully achieve the ambitious claims often associated with such products, a system like S-Logic would be beneficial—because it allows listeners not only to hear more detail, but also to listen longer without fatigue.

Light weight alone does not help much if the sound becomes tiring over time.

At Ultrasone, every model incorporates S-Logic technology, creating a natural, immersive spatial soundstage.

The three new upcoming models use a refined and further developed version of S-Logic EX, while the top model will introduce additional surprises.

With every new product, we are often asked the same question:

What could possibly be improved further?

Rest assured—we always find new ways to deliver even more enjoyment and emotion in the music you love. 🎧
