Introduction to the Founders Series instead of Austrian Audio the Composer?

I have rarely seen such a strangely understandable reaction to a product.

But as I said – it is understandable. Because unlike externally new designs – such as “The Composer” by Austrian Audio – the Founders Series carries its innovations on the inside, both in the closed and the open version.

Beneath the timelessly beautiful shell of the edition 8, which could also have served as the name itself, lies a completely new listening experience.

Now, it is not that the edition 8 is a poorly sounding pair of headphones. After every repair, its linear and pleasant sound is once again a joy. But there is still more potential – at least that was my thought.

We presented the edition 8 in its slim, simple, high-quality design in 2008 and explained the “8” at the time not as a number, but as the infinity symbol, because the design is completely timeless and has received several awards.

For me and many fans, the design language of the edition 8 is one of the most beautiful in the history of ULTRASONE. And so it was only natural to combine the infinity of the form with a rejuvenation of the technology.

And that brings us to the second, understandable part of the curious reaction to the edition 8 in the form of the Founders Series.

Because the sound is an experience that does not need to shy away from any comparison. The adaptation of the GTC drivers from the Edition 15 Veritas into the smaller, but denser housing of the Edition 8, combined with a new tuning, has been so successful that listeners consistently react with astonished disbelief – which, as the designer, developer, and namesake, naturally gives me a rather mischievous sense of satisfaction.

There could hardly be a greater surprise. Familiar on the outside, yet completely different and far better on the inside – warmer and fuller in its sonic impression, while remaining subtle and finely detailed all the way up to the highest frequencies.

In total, around 170 of these pieces of jewelry are planned, and about 30 have been built so far. The remaining ones will follow gradually and without haste.
