The audio industry has made progress toward sustainability, but challenges remain. The industry is working on improving production processes, using recycled materials, and promoting recycling programs. Consumers can contribute to sustainability by paying attention to products from manufacturers that actively engage in environmental protection and social responsibility, choosing durable and repairable products, and using environmentally friendly disposal options. But how sustainable are Apple, Focal, or Meze really?
My opinion on this:
This is exactly where it is important to observe the development of brands closely. Who keeps rushing out new products just to generate more sales? How often is backward compatibility considered (here Apple has so far been a rather unflattering example)? How long do the products last? Are old products thrown away or repaired? How much appreciation do customers have for the product?
For more than 20 years, ULTRASONE has focused on building durable and easily repairable products and extending the availability of spare parts far beyond the warranty period. We repair devices that are over 20 years old at fair prices, we use modular constructions that make parts easy to replace, and we maintain long product life cycles.
Above all, we have customers who truly appreciate this. Of course, it is easier to constantly sell new products instead of maintaining old ones and foregoing additional revenue. But it is a good feeling to give an old returned product new life and polish it to a high shine so that the customer is delighted. And it is a good feeling to see that a pair of headphones still works perfectly after 20 years of use in a recording studio.
Is that good for business? No, certainly not. The action is in the wireless market, but I cannot and do not want to be pulled into this spiral of “ever faster, ever more, ever better.”
That is why we are smaller. And still traveling with cables—which is the best solution for sound anyway. And with a lot of joy, fun, and enjoyment. And we have you as loyal customers who know why it has to be ULTRASONE.
Will that remain the case? Yes. As long as I carry the responsibility, we will not change it!
