The Hermès Headphones Have Arrived

After years of speculation and rumors, the long-awaited moment has finally arrived.

Hermès has officially introduced its own headphones. The product is presented elegantly and concisely on the Hermès website, highlighting both its luxurious design and its acoustic technology.

One description on the website is particularly interesting. It states:

“Comfortable listening pleasure on an ergonomic and acoustic level. The sound is directed to the outer ear, thereby protecting the eardrums and preventing noise-related fatigue.”

For those familiar with headphone technology, this statement immediately suggests something familiar.

A Concept That Sounds Very Familiar

The description closely resembles the principle behind S-Logic technology, the acoustic concept that made ULTRASONE internationally known.

S-Logic works by directing sound toward the outer ear, allowing the natural shape of the ear to participate in spatial sound perception. This approach can create a more natural listening experience and helps reduce listening fatigue during long sessions.

Seeing similar principles referenced in such a prestigious luxury product is certainly interesting.

Luxury Meets Advanced Audio Concepts

Hermès is known worldwide for its uncompromising approach to craftsmanship, design, and exclusivity. The introduction of a headphone product reflects the growing importance of high-end personal audio in the luxury market.

It also shows that even traditional luxury brands are increasingly exploring innovative acoustic technologies to enhance the listening experience.

Congratulations to Hermès on presenting such a remarkable product.

My Perspective

Over time, more and more manufacturers recognize that directing sound toward the outer ear is a powerful approach to achieving natural headphone acoustics.

For many years, my vision has been that this concept could become a widely adopted standard across the industry, influencing headphone design far beyond a single brand.

Back in 2000, I already believed that collaborating with other manufacturers and inspiring broader adoption of these ideas could have an even greater impact on the market than relying on a single brand alone.

Today, many well-known companies have explored similar directions in headphone design, including Astell & Kern, Yamaha, Roland, Ortofon, Vivanco, Sennheiser, Axel Grell, Focal, Alienware, and others.

Hermès now joins a long list of manufacturers that recognize the potential of outer-ear–based acoustic concepts.

And seeing these ideas spread across the industry is a strong indication that the underlying principles are heading in the right direction.
