I often wonder what kinds of stories exist from the manufacturing departments of companies such as HiFiMAN, Audeze, Meze Audio, or Focal.

At ULTRASONE, we occasionally have remarkable experiences—days that sweeten our work because we once again made customers happy and enabled them to keep using their beloved devices, or days with stories like this one.

One day we received an email from the United States. A mother wrote to us saying that the headphones her son was using had a problem with the headband and that one side was no longer working properly.

When we asked which product it was, the answer came back: an Ultrasone Edition 10.

This wonderful headphone from 2010–2011 is quite rare anyway—and even rarer in our repair department. So we are always happy when we get the opportunity to hold such a piece of craftsmanship in our hands. The lady asked roughly what the repair might cost and gave us the approval to proceed.

A few weeks later the Edition 10 arrived.

A simple cardboard box. Inside it, a black garbage bag. And within that bag: scattered, incomplete fragments of an Edition 10 in a terrible state of total neglect.

Well, we thought—a promise is a promise.

After carefully cleaning the individual parts (with rubber gloves), the analysis revealed:

  • a defective cable

  • a broken slider in the headband

  • completely destroyed ear pads

  • and a missing Y-plate

Technically, however, the drivers themselves were perfectly fine.

After reassembly, measurement, listening tests, and final cleaning, the Edition 10 appeared once again in almost like-new condition.

Proudly, the restored piece was shipped back to the United States.

Unfortunately, we never received any feedback about this remarkable transformation.

Still, cases like this—where the situation initially seems hopeless—are always a welcome challenge for our workshop. We are happy about every device that leaves our facility functioning again, because it reflects our commitment to sustainability and customer value.
