The HIGH END Show in Munich – The End of an Era

The HIGH END Show in Munich, one of the most important global events for high-end audio technology, has taken place in the Bavarian capital for many years. This year marks the final edition in Munich, making it a special moment—and a good reason to visit once again.

Why the organizers decided that Vienna will become the new location has not been officially communicated in detail. Unsurprisingly, the reaction within the audio industry has been mixed. Some brands welcome the change, while others feel a strong connection to Munich and would have preferred the event to remain there.

What Makes the HIGH END Show Special

The exhibition is entirely dedicated to premium audio and HiFi technology.

Visitors can experience a broad spectrum of high-end equipment, including:

  • Analog turntables

  • Tube amplifiers

  • High-end speakers

  • Digital streaming systems

  • Audiophile headphones and accessories

Unlike many electronics fairs, the focus is not on mass-market products but on cutting-edge technology, craftsmanship, and often luxury-level audio equipment.

Listening Instead of Just Looking

One of the defining characteristics of the HIGH END Show is the way exhibitors present their products.

Many companies build complete listening rooms roughly the size of hotel suites in order to demonstrate their systems in optimal acoustic environments. Visitors are not simply looking at equipment—they are actively listening and comparing sound quality.

This kind of serious listening experience is rarely possible in typical exhibition halls.

A Global Meeting Point for the Audio Industry

Over the years, the HIGH END Show has attracted exhibitors and visitors from more than 90 countries.

It has long been considered the world’s leading trade fair for high-end audio, often compared to the Geneva Motor Show for luxury automobiles.

Many manufacturers use the exhibition to present world premieres of new products, making it a central stage for innovation within the audiophile community.

The event traditionally begins with industry-only days for professionals, before opening to private visitors and audiophiles during the weekend. This creates a unique mix of:

  • Engineers and developers

  • Distributors and retailers

  • Journalists and reviewers

  • Music lovers and HiFi enthusiasts

Is This the End of the Story?

Hopefully not.

Vienna will certainly attract visitors as well, and the show will undoubtedly continue to be an important gathering point for the audio industry.

However, for many of us there is something that will not return: the special combination of the HIGH END Show in Munich and visits to the Raucherberg.

With the move to Vienna, that chapter comes to an end.

And that is a little sad.

My Perspective

One of the greatest pleasures of the Munich show was always meeting friends, colleagues, distributors, media representatives, and customers just around the corner.

People like Andreas Eichelsdörfer, who runs the YouTube channel WE LOVE HIFI with remarkable dedication and expertise. His channel has become one of the most respected sources for HiFi reviews, including his test of the ULTRASONE Signature PURE WHITE.

The world of high-end audio is constantly evolving, and perhaps—who knows—the HIGH END Show may one day return to Munich.

But nothing lasts forever.

We must adapt to changing circumstances and look forward to what comes next.

Vienna—we are coming.
