Over-ear headphones with balanced connections are usually found in the higher price segment, as this technology has traditionally been used mainly in professional audio applications. Balanced connections provide better signal transmission and reduce interference, which results in higher sound quality. For this reason, they are increasingly gaining ground in the consumer market as well, with the 4.4 mm Pentaconn connector becoming more and more dominant.
One example of an over-ear headphone with a balanced connection is the Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro. This headphone is delivered with two cables, including a balanced 4-pin XLR cable instead of a Pentaconn connector. However, the DT 1990 Pro typically costs more than 500 euros.
