When the founder has free rein

“When I look back at the more than 100 models released over the past 30 years, there are two designs that truly stood out: the Edition 8 and the Edition 10. No other ULTRASONE headphones were harder to say goodbye to when they were discontinued. So what could be more fitting than a revival of these wonderful forms and materials?” (Michael Willberg, Founder and CEO)

When considering such a project, the only option is naturally a limited-edition reissue (since I want to build them myself), featuring improved functionality and state-of-the-art acoustics.

So it was a natural step to tune and adapt the famous, legendary GTC transducer from the Edition 15 to the Founders Series.

The result is a sound that takes your breath away. While the Edition 8, 10, and 12 were already reference-class in sound at the time, the Founders Series, based on them, clearly outshines them. In addition, they can all be played in balanced mode when using a compatible cable.

The very specific advantages of extremely good passive noise cancellation in the closed version and the extreme airiness of the open version—further enhanced by Venturi channels—are particularly well showcased with the new tuning.

In addition, the package includes a detachable connection cable with MMCX connectors, one or two carrying pouches depending on the version, a wooden or leather case, and sometimes even a wooden stand.

However, just like the material combination, this is a surprise. You can choose between open and closed. Which version you receive—whether with a headband made of wood, aluminum, carbon, mother-of-pearl, or ceramic; with drivers featuring aluminum, ruthenium (glossy or matte), PVD, or palladium finishes; whether with a black or silver headband, and so on—is a surprise.

One thing is certain: you will receive a highly exclusive, unique product, of which there is sometimes only a single piece.
