My opinion on this:
What works impressively with VR headsets or 360-degree video does not necessarily produce the same effect when sitting in front of a television or a computer screen. The technology and its implementation may be impressive, but when measured against actual demand and everyday use, I would clearly describe this as a case of over-engineering.
Just because something is technically possible does not necessarily mean it is needed in practice.
