Balanced audio means that the audio signal is transmitted through two signal paths that are out of phase with each other. As a result, interference that occurs during transmission can be effectively eliminated because it cancels itself out. This leads to a cleaner signal transmission with less noise and distortion.

Can you actually hear the difference?

With high-quality headphones and in a quiet environment, the difference can be clearly audible. With less capable models or in noisy environments, the difference will probably hardly be noticeable.

Especially with complex and dynamic pieces of music (for example classical or jazz), the difference can be more noticeable, as balanced connections help present fine details and dynamics more clearly.

So the difference can indeed be heard, particularly in an optimal combination of high-quality headphones, a good audio source, and a quiet listening environment.
