Spending on gifts for St. Nicholas Day varies across Europe depending on the country and its traditions. In Germany, for example, parents spent an average of €14.60 in 2013 on the contents of a Nikolaus boot. Please don’t commercialize St. Nicholas Day as well. A few nuts, a couple of mandarins, some chocolate, cookies, and a few twigs are more than enough. There are still plenty of opportunities for gifts during this time of year.
