When a Headphone Arrives in a Cooking Pot
As part of our repair service, we recently received a request to service an ULTRASONE Edition 10 from 2010. The owner only needed two things replaced: the cable and the head padding.
Simple enough—at least that’s what we thought.
A Surprisingly Heavy Package
When the package arrived, however, we immediately noticed something unusual.
It was surprisingly heavy.
Opening the box revealed the reason:
To ensure safe transport, the owner had placed the headphone inside a cooking pot, carefully packed for protection.
Inside the pot sat the Edition 10—remarkably well preserved despite many years of use.
Naturally, this sparked a few amusing thoughts among us.
Perhaps we should collaborate with companies like **WMF or **Le Creuset to create premium, bomb-proof headphone cases.
One can only imagine the joy such a project might bring to WMF.
The Repair Itself
Fortunately, the actual repair was relatively straightforward.
The owner had clearly taken excellent care of the headphone over the years, and the device arrived in exceptionally good condition.
The only slightly challenging part was removing the ear pads.
The adhesive used for the pads held so firmly that it was actually stronger than the adhesive used for the Mu-metal shielding inside the headphone.
As a result, the customer also received two new Mu-metal shields during the repair process.
This was necessary because Mu-metal must never be bent, as that would compromise its shielding properties.
A Small Extra for a Loyal User
As a small gesture of appreciation, we added a storage pouch to the package.
And as always with our repairs, the customer will also receive the old replaced parts, so they can clearly see what work was carried out.
My Personal Perspective
It is always a pleasure to surprise loyal users of our headphones with a small additional gesture of appreciation.
After all, it’s not every day that we receive a 15-year-old headphone for repair that has been treated with such care—despite clearly being used extensively.
To the owner of this Edition 10:
I wish you many more years of enjoyment with it.
And of course, the cooking pot will be used again for the return shipment. 🎧🍲
